Our Department's History and Mission
We, the Cheesequake Volunteer Fire Company, proudly serve Fire District #2 of Old Bridge, NJ. Our mission is to safeguard your family, your belongings, and the overall well-being of our community.
A Rich History of OUR Service
The Cheesequake Volunteer Fire Company was founded in 1926 with land for House #1 donated by charter member William Gross. The original firehouse was a 12’x15’ tin shed holding a hand-drawn chemical wagon from the Morgan Munitions Plant.
In 1932, a building from the Crescent Sportsman Club was moved to the site to house a 1917 Model T fire truck from Leonardo FD. A 1931 Chevy engine joined in 1937, serving until 1950 when the house was expanded for a new International Pumper (201).
Growth continued with a 750 GPM pumper (203) in 1959, leading to a new firehouse dedicated in 1960. A second pumper (202) followed in 1961, an 85-foot ladder truck (204) in 1965, a 4-wheel-drive brush truck (206) in 1969, and a 1000 GPM pumper (207) plus Chief’s station wagon (209) in 1971. A Rescue and Squad Truck (205) was added in 1976.
To serve the expanding Lakeridge area, a firehouse on Highway 516 was built in 1967, fully staffed after a 1969 recruitment drive as “Engine Two.” Station 3 opened in the late 1970s in a converted church and was replaced in the mid-1990s with a modern steel facility.
Today, the Cheesequake Volunteer Fire Company proudly continues its mission of protecting lives and property, remaining a cornerstone of the Old Bridge community.
